Guimaras Mango Festival is the event of the year of this beautiful, lush green Province of Philippines, held to honor the sweetest mangoes of the world that are grown in this area, as well as to commemorate the foundation of the Province of Guimaras. The celebration is usually held every April in Jordan. The first festival dates back on May 22, 1993, when the first anniversary of Guimaras as an independent province was commemorated. Guimaras mangoes are touted as the sweetest in the world, thus the demand for it in local and international markets is high and it has become a centerpiece of the province of Guimaras’ tourism.

These mangoes are served in Buckingham Palace and the White House. This sweet and succulent fruit was also featured in Magnolia Ice Cream’s Best of the Philippines through their Mangoes and Cream and Mangga’t Kasoy ice cream flavors.

Guimaras mangoes’ seeds and pulp were also confirmed to be weevil free by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service- United States Department of Agriculture (APHIS-USDA) and Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS).  Read More:  http://www.iloilotoday.com/2016/04/mangoes-boost-guimaras-economy-and.html

Guimaras province is eyeing sales of more than P10 million and more tourist arrivals when it celebrates its Manggahan Festival on May 11-22. The festival promotes the province as the producer of the sweetest mango in the world and as a tourist destination.

Guimaras mangoes are certified pest-free by the US Department of Agriculture and reportedly served at the White House and Buckingham Palace. Around 50,000 mango trees grow all over the island province.  Aside from mangoes, a trade fair will sell aquaculture products, souvenir items, cut flowers and organic vegetables during the festival.  Last year’s sales reached P10 million.

Guimaras, which boasts of white sand beaches, calm seas and virgin forests, has tourism, fruit processing, coconut processing, fish farming, handicrafts making, mining, quarrying and lime products as its major industries.  Read More:  http://www.foodevolution.com.ph/2016/05/guimaras-readies-for-manggahan-festival/
