Mt. Balagbag has a difficulty of 2/9 and the trail is a lot easier than what I’ve experienced from my climbs before. Height is roughly 777 MASL (so far the highest that I’ve climbed). It is situated in Rizal and is part of the Sierra Madre range. I always prefer climbing mountains that’s in Rizal because not only it’s near our place, the view from the summits are also stunning. This is definitely the perfect mountain for beginners like me (seems like I won’t be past beginner, lol!), difficulty is easy, trail doesn’t include rock climbing, and there are almost no life threatening passages. When I say life threatening, it means no cliffs, no narrow passages, and no rocky trails.
And since it’s in Rizal, I thought we would ride the usual transportation going there. You know, Montalban UVs. But no! In order to go there, we rode a bus going to Tungko. The jump off is in Rizal and we went past through San Del Monte Bulacan. How amazing geography is. Lol! Didn’t know you can go to Rizal via San Del Monte. Bordered by Bulacan and Rizal, Mt. Balagbag is one of the minor climb destinations which is relatively close to Manila.
With the elevation of 770 MASL, the unpaved road with mostly ascend wide and open trail will take you 2-3 hours before reaching the summit. Although locals recall a past when the mountain was covered with trees, so trekking during summer season, you would find the sun’s heat the only difficult part of the trail. Hence, dim trekking is advisable (hiking very early in the morning or late afternoon).
Mt. Balagbag is also frequented by mountain bikers and 4×4 vehicle owners which you will encounter from time to time. Read More: https://viajeromnl.com/2016/06/22/mt-balagbag-of-rizal/

The sufficient elevation of the summit offer views of central business districts of Ortigas, Cubao, Makati and mostly northeast side of Metro Manila, as well as the IPO Watershed. From the summit, which also serve as part of the camping site, hikers can also visit the LED lit cross. Read More: https://viajeromnl.com/2016/06/22/mt-balagbag-of-rizal/
