PANDAYAN FESTIVAL

Held in Badiangan every last week of June, the Pandayan Festival is a celebration of Badiangan’s excellent blacksmith traditions, which has been one of the main source of livelihood.
The municipality produces several kinds of bolo with specific uses: Binakuko for chopping wood; Sinuwak for carpentry and cutting shrubs and smaller trees; Ginunting having the same function as the sinuwak; Pinuti for slicing meat; Tangkap for kitchen use; Linamay, Surot, and Balintawak are used in gardening; Kayog is used to harvest rice; and Wasay used to chop lumber and bigger trees.
Badiangan’s blacksmith pride is the Bingawan Bolo, known for its durability and craftsmanship.
The Pandayan Festival is highlighted with Igbarasnons performing informative and unique presentations with themes focusing on the town’s local industries: the Bingawan Bolo-Making, Badiangan Instant Taho, and Loom Weaving. Read More: http://www.localphilippines.com/attractions/pandayan-festival

One of the major festivals of Iloilo, Pandayan of Badiangan, the like of which is one-of-a-kind seen in the province of Iloilo will take place on June 17-24, 2016.
The event annually showcases and celebrates the best of Blacksmithing in Badiangan, the tribes who participate in this ancient but essential craft, its historic roots and its relevance and place in today’s society. Open to the public, this important event include demonstrations on how bolo is made. It also features other important backyard industries of the town such as weaving and taho-making. Most popular backyard industry is bolo-making. Bolos are used as an implement in farming and cutting materials. A number of people in the community are engaged “panday” or blacksmiths and have become experts in the trade using manual and improvised equipments. Baiangan is a popular source of fine crafted bolos in Iloilo, the Bingawan Bolo. It is preferred in local markets because of its durability and craftsmanship.
