Pasaka Festival

The Pasaka Festival, now on its 25th year, is just one event that shows the resiliency of the townspeople. It is also a religious celebration that pays homage to the town’s patroness, Our Lady of Assumption. The festival is an annual thanksgiving celebration of all the blessings received. The festivity is annually held on August 14.

“Pasaka” is a Waraynon word and local term which means “to invite progress, good health and good fortune” for the years to come.

Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival

Pintados-Kasadyaan, held every June 29th, is two merged festivals from two different provinces of the Philippines – Pintados Festival of Tacloban and Kasadyaan Festival of Leyte Province. The Pintados festival of Tacloban City is a Filipino festival with its own unique flavour. This Pintados festival recalls pre-Spanish history of the native Leytenos from wars, epics and folk religions. The most expected aspect of the Pintados festival are the festive dancers, painted from head to toe with designs that look like armor to resemble the tattooed warriors. The folk dances presented by the dancers portray the many traditions that flourished before the Spaniards came. Aside from the folk dances, is the much likely parade, which crisscrosses the avenues of Tacloban city. The festival concludes in merrymaking with a signature traditional Filipino fiesta. Sangyaw Festival

Sangyaw Festival is a religious, socio-cultural event and a popular native festival held every 29th of June in Tacloban City. Sangyaw means “to herald news” in the local dialect. It was created in the 80s, cancelled in 1987 and revived in 2008. The revived festival became a big success and participated by cultural contingents from different performing groups of various festivals in the country to compete on this side of the region.
