Bulusan is classified by volcanologists as a stratovolcano (composite volcano) and covers the northeast rim of Irosin caldera that was formed about 40,000 years before present. It has a peak elevation of 1,565 m (5,135 ft) above sea level with a base diameter of 15 km (9.3 mi).
Located in the area around the mountain are four craters and four hot springs.
Bulusan Lake
Lake Bulusan is located within the Bulusan Volcano Natural Park. The area was first designated as a National Park in 1935 and later designated as a Natural Park in 2000 by the National Integrated Protected Areas System.
Bulusan Lake is surrounded by a secondary growth forest that is home to a number of butterfly and bird species. Approximately 41 tree species have been identified in this surrounding forest.
There are no streams or rivers that visibly flow into the lake. The major source of water is considered to be seepage from underground water surrounding the lake. Also, surface runoff contributes to the lake volume, but only during the rainy season.
Bacon Beach
The long stretch of fine black sand beach and clear blue waters is located in Caricaran, the Bacon District of Sorsogon City, just a 15-minute ride away from the center of the City. Along the shores are beachside cottages made from native materials that can be rented by beach-goers and picnickers.
