It could be in the form of a cultural festival, a religious fiesta that honors a patron saint, or the town or city’s founding day. Candelaria Festival

Jaro, Iloilo City celebrates the feast of Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of Candles) every 2nd of February. In this event, Ilonggos visit this historical district to celebrate and pay tribute to Our Lady of Candles.
This religious activity, attracts local as well as foreign visitors who would like to experience this kind of solemn, special, and spiritual occasion being embraced by all of the Ilonggos.
Truly, the devotion to Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria (Our Lady of Candles) can be seen as the Jaro Cathedral is loaded with people from 4 AM Mass and to the evening Mass. A lot of devotees gathered at the front of the cathedral to offer honor to the Senora as well as light candles in her recognition. Carabao Carroza Festival

The festival is held every May 3rd, the eve of the patronal fiesta of Pavia. It is said to be the province’s oldest institutionalized festival. Hundreds of people gather up early in the morning to see the parade of intricately designed carabao carts made from indigenous materials, along with the trusty water buffalo and the maidens of the barrios, vying to be the town fiesta’s queen.
On late morning, the feast is highlighted with carabaos racing up towards the finish line. Farmers and their trustworthy carabaos gather in the High School grounds for the event. Spectators fill up this late morning spectacle, some betting on their best carabaos, others watch for the thrill. The carabaos, geared with their carts on their back, race together with their dear farmer to win the prize. Chinese New Year

A very festive Chinese New Year celebration is held in Iloilo, which holds the distinction of having one of the largest concentration of “Tsinoys” or Filipinos with Chinese ancestry or descent in the country. This year, the Iloilo Chinese New Year is held every February 12. The Chinese parade will start from the Capitol grounds and end in the Freedom Grandstand, where a program will start at 4pm. The Chinese New Year program at the Freedom Grandstand will feature cultural shows, a food festival, and a grand fireworks display.
