Rajah Baguinda Festival is celebrated every 2nd week of August.
The festival is celebrated to the essential contribution of Rajah Baguinda in history. He led the spread of the adoptation of Sulu Sultanate government and Islam religion. It starts on the second week of August in Jolo, Sulu. Knowing that they have the same faith, the natives accepted Rajah in the island and his arrival is not welcomed by the natives but he fought back. Participants are in the city throughout with the colorful costumes and the performance of different cultural shows is done to give honor to the arrival of Rajah. Celebrated every 2nd week of August in Jolo, Sulu, Rajah Baguinda Festival is a three-day cultural show to commemorate the contribution of Rajah Baguinda in the history of Sulu. He was the one who led the spread of Islam and the adaptation of the Sulu Sultanate Government.

The history of this celebration dates back to 1390 with the arrival of Rajah Baguinda from Sumatra Indonesia. He wanted to spread the Islamic religion and fortify the Sultanate form of government in the Philippines. While the natives of the country were not pleased with his arrival, faith bridged them together, leading to its commemoration every second week of August at Jolo in Sulu. The festival is a three-day revelry of cultural shows distinguished by participants’ colorful costumes– a picture of the culture of Sulu.
