It's More Fun in the Philippines, No.1 for Fun!

Some 24 colorful kites of various shapes and sizes went aloft in a village in this bustling town of Guimaras Island, signaling the arrival of summer and regaling local folks and visitors alike who came to witness the spectacle and admire the kite flying skills of the young participants.

The event, called Saranggola Festival, got through without hitches as the balmy weather proved cooperative, the moderate winds a big help in maintaining balance as the kites propelled higher into darkened skies.

The shapes and design of the kites seemed to reflect the dreams of participants. One entry looked every bit a fighter aircraft and its young handler said being a pilot one day is his biggest aspiration.

Kite flying festival is an activity participated by Barangay folks and neighboring barangays and municipalities of Guimaras. It manifests the ingenuity and creativity of the townspeople in designing kites, maneuvering the same as they swiftly and smoothly fly in the air. The event promotes the preservation of the traditional leisure of the Filipinos and creativity in re-using and recycling materials in making and designing kites. Summer is the best time to fly kites. Guimaras Island with its breeze, surf, rolling hills and solid lime cliffs is perfect for kite flying.

Barangay Tastasan in Buenavista town has launched its Sarangola Festival.

Kites of various themes and sizes took to the skies, before an eager audience of children and the young at heart.
