Sibug – Sibug Festival is celebrated during their foundation day on the province of Sibugay on February 26, with colorful Ethnic Street dancing with rituals illustrating good harvest, wedding and healing rituals. During the festival, it endorses it’s number one product which is the oyster or talaba in tagalong which has been known to be the biggest, juiciest, and meatiest oysters in the country. In this two week celebration, in the town of Ipil, “Talaba Longest Grill” has been the main attraction of the visitors and viewers. In this manner, Zamboanga can promote their oysters to the world. Zamboanga Sibugay recently achieved a world record for the Worlds Longest Talaba Grill with five to 12 inches-long oysters or talaba as the main feature. Pasalamat Festival

The Pasalamat Festival is one of the most colorful and grandest celebrations in Pagadian City, dubbed as the “Little Hongkong of the South.”

The event is the annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January, in honor of its patron Saint Santo Niño. It is fundamentally a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s recognition of Christianity, showcasing dances and rituals of the people of Pagadian thanking God Almighty for all the blessings they received, giving them hope in spite of life’s struggles and complexities.

It features vibrant display of bright colored costumes and fluid movements of dancers moving to the rhythm of drums and gongs, as they woo the judges with their excellent performances. There were 15 dance troupes representing various public secondary schools in the city.

The participants danced their way from the wharf area to Plaza Luz, where the final showdown for the ritual dance competition was held. Thousands of spectators, locals and tourists went out the streets to witness the event. Read More: https://pia.gov.ph/features/articles/1017677

Kasikas Festival

Kasikas Festival is an annual event honouring Sr. San Jose Mamumuo falls every May 1, the patron of Ipil. The celebration or town fiesta is highlighted with religious processions, choral competition and others. They also have parade or street dancing competition featuring the Lechon or Roasted Pig. Kasadyaan Festival

niversary of the Municipality of Diplahan. Highlights of the festival include street dancing, parade and Miss Diplahan.

Zamboanga Sibugay celebrated their first Sibugsay sa Sibugay Festival last July 1, 2012 with the theme “Our Sibugay, Our Tomorrow”, due to some pragmatic reasons, replaced their Sibug-Sibug fest originally held every February.

World Migratory Bird Festival

Part of our week long Zamboanga City tour includes a visit to the neighboring province of Zamboanga Sibugay to join the first ever World Migratory Bird Day in the Philippines. The celebration is set at the town of Siay where the Siay-Kabasalan Wetlands is located, one of the major flyways for migratory birds in the region.

Siay is about four hours away from Zamboanga City and we witnessed how they celebrated the World Migratory Bird Day through art and photo exhibitions, dance competitions, bird costume contest, and even a bird mascot showdown. The festival, being a first, isn’t really as grand as say the Zamboanga Hermosa Festival and lasted only from October 12 to 13. One of the things I really liked about it though was the group of Subanen elders who played their gongs, dancing along the beat with their traditional clothes on.
