COLORFUL FESTIVALS IN LA UNION

 

Each town in La Union celebrates its own town fiesta. Aside from that, there are some other special festivals held yearly all over La Union:

 

Buyboy Festival

It was co-incidental that coming from Baguio City, I saw an event in San Fernando City about to happen. I dropped by and witnessed this Buyboy Festival. 

The province produced primarily buyboy, walis tambo or brooms. So they came up with the idea of celebrating Buyboy Festival in celebration of the 162nd founding anniversary of the said province. Read More:  http://www.ilocandiatreasures.com

 

Sillag Festival

MANILA, Philippines – La Union is holding its second Sillag Festival of Lights at the Poro Point Freeport Zone on March 9 to 10.

“Sillag” is an Ilocano word that means “moonbeam” or “illumination from the moon.”

The two-day event features light-inspired activities such as the Sunset Run for Hope, ceremonial lighting of Sillag Village, a pyromusical show and lantern fluvial parade. Read More:  http://rappler.com 

 

Dinengdeng Festival

This pilgrimage town held its 8th “Dinengdeng Festival” on Tuesday with local cooks simultaneously whipping up various kinds of dinengdeng (vegetable) dishes at the grounds of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, South La Union campus.  Read More:  http://hotfmagoo.blogspot.com

Dalumpinas Elementary School and La Union National High School students who officially represented the City of San Fernando perform their best moves during the street showdown competition of the Bagnet Festival Streetdancing competition on December 15, 2013 at Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. Baggak Festival

Bauangenians are going all out in paying tribute as they celebrate the Baggak (morning star) festival which the town had been celebrating for the past years.

The festival’s and founding anniversary’s main theme, “Parol: Silaw ti Ragsak, Namnama ken Panagkaykaysa iti ili ti Bauang” (Star: Light of Happiness, Hope and Unity in the Municipality of Bauang) a symbol of the town’s development through the years.

Pindangan Festival

The annual street dancing competition among students and residents from various schools and barangays in the City of San Fernando marked the first day of the five-day celebration for the 10th cityhood foundation anniversary of the city.

Known as the “Pindangan Festival”, students from the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels and including the different barangays and civic organizations in the city set foot their best street dance steps and displayed their colorful costumes on March 15.
