Salakayan Festival

The Salakayan festival of Miagao is held every first week of February. Salakayan, coined from a Hiligaynon term “salakay” or “ to attack,” is a street dance-drama that merges arts, lore and customs of the town.
It tells of personal power and daily activities of the people. The main theme depicts the victorious battle waged by the locals against Muslim marauders sometime in 1754. An important historical occasion for the people of Miag-ao, this annual festivity attracts guests to its weeklong activity of Food Fair, Agro-industrial and Trade Fair, Fluvial Parade, Higante contest, Literary Musical contest, Evening Socials and the hablon and patadyong Fashion show. The Gigantes Festival, personifying the prominent persons in Miagao’s history in large well-made mascots, is also a highlight of the Salakayan Festival. Tubong-Tubong Festival

Iloilo is a province of rich culture and expressive festivals enjoyed and celebrated with a great zeal. One of this is the annual Tubong-Tubong Festival of Tubungan.
Tubong-Tubong was established with its mission of promoting and preserving the cultural and artistic heritage of the people of this town. While dedicated to maintain the traditional aspects of their past, the celebration also presents to the public, a variety of cultural programs. The municipal government is also active in encouraging and promoting the development of youth who will carry their heritage with them into the next century.
Derived from the Hiligaynon word “tubong” or “to contribution or chip-in,” the festival is based on the local tradition of Filipinos called “Bayanihan.”The Spanish Law of the Indies required that an area, to be recognized as a town, must comply with population needs. Rich in cultural heritage and a people known for their strength and impressive characters, the town of Janiuay in Iloilo celebrates “Surong Festival” every last week of April. Surong Festival is defined as an eco-agri and cultural festival that unites the people of Janiuay to take pride of their municipality and their unique culture. The festival’s main highlight is the “Kinabun” or tribe performance from various groups that depicts history, culture, myths and traditions. The town takes pride of their historical sites and attractions that reflects their grandeur past such as the Janiuay Catholic Cemetery of Neo-gothic architecture constructed in 1875, the Ruins of San Julian Parish Church built on baked bricks and corals showcasing Neo-classical architecture with byzantine elements, World War II Japanese Pillboxes along the Suage River, and promotes their local tourism attraction, the Damires Hills Tierra Verde Resort.
