Canigao Island

Canigao Island is one of the hidden Gem of Leyte. It is unknown to many especially to the people of Manila or of Luzon Island. I didn’t had an idea what’s in there until I saw it with my eyes. Canigao is an islet with white sand beach. It is a popular weekend getaway for families and friends residing in Leyte. 10 minutes away from the mainland – that will surely hit the locals.

I did expect something extraordinary from this Island. Maybe I was just stereotyping. Every place has its own beauty and allure. God made us unique thus also for the places and location in Earth. They say that beauty is subjective. Yes, indeed. Canigao Island is beautiful. I realize that when I dipped into its waters. Its not a perfect beach but it still can offer you a good communion with the water.

This island deserves a visit when you are in Leyte. The drama is spectacular. Its pristine waters level it self to the top island destination in the Philippines.  Read More:  http://www.lonelytravelogue.com/2013/08/the-beauty-of-canigao-island.html

Castanas Spring Resort

There was a great buzz in town as to this place and as such  I decided to go there with my family  to experience first hand what’s the buzz all about.  Was I disappointed? No, no, but rather impressed is a better term.

1.  Ambiance:   I don’t know about you but if you ask me, there is nothing more soothing or relaxing than to see those lavishly green mountains, breathe those cold, fresh mountain air and play in those crystal clear waters.

2.  Pool:   It’s what set them apart from other man-made lagoons. The water is free flowing from the mountains meaning it’s continuously changed. It’s cold so it’s perfect for those overworked muscles. Most importantly, it’s clean.

3.  Safety:   Let’s admit it, you may not be the best swimmer out there but no worries; they have subdivisions of their pools. They have pools for children (roughly 2 to 3 feet), adult non-swimmer pool (3-4 feet) and pools for those with swimming prowess (4 to 6 feet). It would be great if they have lifeguard in but at least they have signs that “children must be accompanied by adults when swimming.”

4.  Amenities:  They have a bar for those who just want to unwind and drink but not necessarily swim.  For the more adventurous ones, they have a zip line but unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to try it because it was unavailable when we got there. They have two swimming slides for the children pool and the swimmer pool.  They have cottages to choose from. Great and “clean” comfort rooms.  For those talented folks who want to showcase their singing prowess, yes they have a Videoke machine at the bar for the regular price of Php 5.00 per song.

5.   Cost:  You may think it’s pocket draining but you’re absolutely wrong.  It’s quite the opposite as it’s very budget friendly.  Read More:  https://rmaceda.wordpress.com/tag/castanas-spring-resort/

Cuatro Islas

Photo from:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuatro_Islas

Cuatro Islas (Four Islands) is a group of islands belonging to the municipalities of Inopacan and Hindang, in the province of Leyte, Philippines. This group of islands is composed of Apid, Digyo and Mahaba, which belong to the administrative jurisdiction of the municipality of Inopacan, while Himokilan belongs to the administrative jurisdiction of the municipality of Hindang.

The islands are drawing a good number of local and foreign tourists to its pristine beaches and coral reefs. While the islands are protected the combination of overfishing, poorly enforced fishing regulations, unmanaged solid waste (especially plastics) have put the islands and their associated marine ecosystems under pressure. With improved protection (especially expansion of the sanctuary areas) and infrastructure the islands ecosystems health can recover.

The islands hold great potential to become a recreational diving destination, as the marine ecosystems’ health improves and proper infrastructure is established.  Read More: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuatro_Islas
